As a seventeen-year-old ruler chafing under the obligations of her bloodline, Princess Amethysta Serelle finds the royal life anything but enchanting.
Betrothed to a nefarious highborn, Amethysta’s heart mourns her lost chance at love—that is, until she becomes mesmerized by someone other than her suitor, and her heart begins to beat anew.
Desperate to keep her daughter on the path toward duty and the throne, the queen keeps a deadly secret. But as Amethysta balances the burden of expectations and freedom, the glowing, blue truth will not stay hidden for much longer.
Desire and duty battle on, further complicated by strange occurrences happening to Amethysta’s body. She struggles for control as her once unquestioned reality is obliterated.
Will she discover the truth, in her heart and hands, before it’s too late?
The Art of Lying in a Plot in Fiction Writing
Guest Post by Sara Secora
Personally, I wouldn’t call writing fiction the act of lying—I much rather call it the beauty of imagining.
There are no boundaries that live in fiction; only the ones that reside within the writer itself. So with that said, the limitations are quite literally endless when one chooses to write a fictional story.
When I read, I want to dive into a world of wonder and excitement; to drown out the dark parts of our day to day lives. So, when it comes time for me to write, I remember that. I take my experiences from reality and twist them into something magical.
The main character of Throne of Lies is Amethysta Serelle, and she is a very much an extension of me, but not a clone. She has her own traits and flaws. Her own struggles and loves. But, many characteristics of us do overlap. It’s as if I get to write about myself in another world. I get to be braver, more adventurous, and more impactful. It’s imagining myself in a new light. Writing Throne of Lies was a joy for that reason and many more.
In the words of the great Lewis Carroll: “Imagination is the only weapon against reality.”
I couldn’t have said it any better myself.
